In 2017, Jaguar Land Rover prepared to reveal the Range Rover Velar, a completely new model positioned between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport. The launch was handled with extraordinary discretion — the car had not been seen publicly before its unveiling. The Tint Shop was commissioned to support Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) team with precision window tinting for pre-production and show vehicles, ensuring they were presented flawlessly at a series of high-profile events.

Project Background

The Velar’s carefully managed launch began with a dramatic reveal at the Design Museum in London, followed by appearances at the Geneva International Motor Show, the New York International Auto Show, and the Shanghai Auto Show. Each appearance demanded absolute consistency in the presentation of the vehicle’s glass, under varied lighting conditions and in front of a global audience.

The Challenge

Due to the confidential nature of the programme, all work had to be completed with discretion and exacting standards. Specific challenges included:

  • Trialling and applying tints to windscreens at SVO Coventry under multiple lighting conditions to match factory glass perfectly.
  • Coordination with a specialist partner in Holland, who supplied the coated front door glass for the vehicles.
  • Completing on-site tinting at the Design Museum, Geneva Palexpo, and the New York International Auto Show, with adjustments made under exhibition lighting.
  • Consulting and supplying tint film for the Shanghai Auto Show, where local partners carried out the installation under our guidance.

The Solution

At SVO’s secure Coventry facility, our team tested different tinting options under varied lighting and applied the chosen specification to all windscreens, ensuring the vehicles were show-ready at the point of assembly.

At the London premiere, technicians ensured the vehicles were presented flawlessly, maintaining consistent glass tone under museum lighting. The same care was taken in Geneva and New York, with on-site adjustments to suit exhibition conditions. For Shanghai, The Tint Shop supplied the tint film and provided detailed technical guidance, enabling trusted local partners to complete the work to specification.

The Velar’s launch was widely praised, with expertly tinted glazing complementing its clean, modern lines. The work achieved:
