Case Study:
Securing Tesla’s Chiswick Showroom After Targeted Break-Ins.
Client: Tesla UK
Location: Hogarth Roundabout, A4 – Chiswick, West London
Service: Full Installation of Security Window Film
The Challenge
Tesla’s West London showroom, located at the high-profile Hogarth Roundabout on the A4, had become the target of repeated break-ins by organised moped gangs. Intruders exploited the glass frontage, smashing through door panels to gain rapid access to the site and remove high-value technology and equipment before alarms and CCTV systems could trigger an effective response.
Although the premises already benefitted from electronic security measures, the glazing itself represented a significant physical weakness. The speed at which the door glass could be breached meant that existing defences offered limited deterrence. Tesla required a discreet yet highly effective solution that would strengthen their glass without undermining the clean, minimalist aesthetic of the showroom.
The Solution
The Tint Shop was commissioned to carry out a comprehensive security upgrade using high-performance security window film. This specialist laminate was applied across all exterior glazing, with particular attention to the most vulnerable areas — the door panels, surrounding side sections, and full-height display glass that forms the striking façade of the building.
By reinforcing the glazing with a strong, impact-resistant film, we were able to transform the weakest point of the showroom into a robust first line of defence. The film works by holding glass firmly in place upon impact, resisting shattering and significantly delaying attempts at forced entry. In the event of an attack, the glass now absorbs and disperses energy, slowing down intruders and reducing the likelihood of immediate penetration.
An added benefit is the retention of glass fragments should a pane eventually fail. Instead of scattering into hazardous shards, the broken glass remains bonded to the film, making it far safer for staff and customers and reducing the scale of any potential clean-up. Crucially, all of this protection was achieved with an almost invisible finish. Tesla’s modern architectural design — defined by its open, bright frontage — was left uncompromised, with the protective film blending seamlessly into the existing glazing.
The project was carried out quickly and with minimal disruption to Tesla’s daily operations. Careful scheduling and professional installation ensured that the showroom could continue to function while its security was being discreetly upgraded.
The Outcome
Since completion of the installation, the Chiswick site has not suffered any further break-ins. The enhanced glazing now acts as both a visible deterrent and a practical barrier, dramatically increasing the time and effort required for any attempted forced entry. The once-vulnerable door glass is no longer an easy target, providing Tesla with far greater confidence in the resilience of their premises.
Tesla’s management team now benefit from peace of mind, knowing that the property’s security has been upgraded without sacrificing the premium, minimalist design that defines their brand identity. The investment has delivered long-term protection, reduced risk of disruption, and reinforced Tesla’s reputation for innovation and attention to detail — even when it comes to safeguarding their showrooms.
